MEET THE TEAM
“The way the music business has changed due to the Internet, it’s hard for new artists to get a leg up. Cobblestone Road Entertainment exists to nurture emerging talent and give young artists that chance to grow organically.”
~ Casey Barile
Casey & Laura Barile
President / Managing Partner
Casey Barile has been passionate about music — specifically making music — longer than he can recall. He has had success in songwriting and producing as well as being a musician and band leader, giving him a unique perspective from both sides of the mixing board in a recording studio. It was a natural progression for Barile to emerge as one of northern Virginia’s premier studio owners and music developers.
In the mean time, songstress Laura Turner—born and raised in Houston, TX, while spending most summers at the family ranch in Jackson Hole, WY—had been making her way as a successful artist since her teens. Having received her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance, she initially focused on the pop and country styles inspired by the likes of Pat Benatar and Emmylou Harris, but her significant vocal talents and three-octave range led her to study at Italy’s Chigiana Academy of Music with the intention of becoming an opera singer.
While further studying classical music in Washington, DC, Turner met Barile, who owned a nearby studio. At the time, it was becoming clear to her that the operatic world would not give her the kind of creative freedom for which she yearned, and she was discovering more layers of her own voice and artistry. Barile and Turner collaborated in the studio, and he encouraged her to expand those country/pop stylings and make the move to Nashville. She did so, and met Blake Mevis, a prolific songwriter and producer.
Unsure of the straight country route Mevis had in mind, Turner continued to hone her craft as a songwriter, consistently singing standards and pop material at songwriters’ nights, and picking up some sought-after vocal demo work. For this classically trained singer, collaborations with the likes of Kurt Howell (who shared a classical background but also played in country-rock groups like Southern Pacific) and David Lyndon Huff (an ex-session man with world music credentials) developed into a unique pop hybrid sound that was impossible to ignore.
Nashville industry giant Mike Curb was looking to expand the crossover side of his successful country roster, and Turner’s blended style was a perfect fit. She signed with Curb Records and released Soul Deep in 2003. Produced and partially written by Howell and Huff, the album also featured songwriting from heavy hitters Diane Warren and Desmond Child, as well as contributions from Turner herself.
But fate wasn’t done with Turner and Barile’s story as a duo in music and, indeed, in life. Coming back together to work on music led to the realization that this partnership was more than just a musical one, and soon a love story also ensued. They were married recently, solidifying their relationship both in and out of the recording studio.
Both of the Bariles share a deep passion for helping young artists establish themselves to the point where they can make a consequential living from touring and making music — no mean feat in an industry mired in streaming outlets and social media where breaking through the ocean of music constantly being released is more difficult than it has ever been. “The way the music business has changed due to the Internet, it’s hard for new artists to get a leg up,” says Casey. The clear vision of Cobblestone Road Entertainment is to nurture emerging talent and give young artists that chance to grow organically with financial backing imbued with in integrity, decency and an honest vision toward meaningful musical success.
“I’ve always live by the belief that if you don’t think today is important, just remember that an artist has given you their hopes and dreams and asked you to make them come true.”
